0.To start a new trip
A guttural roar shattered the serenity of my afternoon tea. Before the porcelain cup could clatter, Apollo materialized in my doorway, his face contorted in a scowl, a stark contrast to his usual radiant glow. Beside him, Dionysus stumbled in, his flushed face an unusual picture of annoyance despite the playful glint in his eyes.
"Calm down, brother," Dionysus rumbled, a hint of amusement battling the tension in the air. "It's just a book, isn't it?"
"Just a book?" Athena materialized behind them, her sharp eyes gleaming with amusement. "This little tome, titled 'To the Most Beautiful God of Literature and Art,' has the entire pantheon in an uproar!" The entire continent is interested in this new strife of beauty.
I set down my teacup, a grin tugging at my lips. A competition amongst the gods? This was far more entertaining than retrieving another lost lyre.
Apollo's voice dripped with disdain. "Apparently, Friedrich Nietzsche,a mortal scholar – some madman with a quill for a sword – has dared to judge which of us is the true muse for art and literature! 222 artworks from European museums have already been chosen as judges, and both Dionysus and I seem to be neck and neck in the votes."
A heavy silence descended. The playful banter between the brothers vanished, replaced by a simmering tension. Dionysus, the embodiment of untamed emotions, thrived on chaos. Apollo, on the other hand, championed order and structured beauty. This wasn't just about bragging rights; it was a clash of two fundamental forces that had shaped art throughout history.
"This competition is far more interesting than Golden Apple of Discord," I mused, stroking my chin, "could redefine art itself. It seems we have a game on our hands, brothers."
A flicker of amusement danced in Apollo's eyes. "Indeed, brother Hermes. But before we embark on this artistic odyssey, perhaps you recall another journey we undertook together?"
A wry smile spread across my face. "Ah, the year of the lost lyre. We traversed the vast ocean, the salty spray clinging to our tunics, forging trade routes with the East while seeking the stolen melody."
As we reminisced about China's exquisite silks and India's intoxicating spices, a bittersweet pang struck me. Those shared experiences belonged to a past where we worked together, not as competitors.
"But those days are gone," I thought, stealing a glance at Athena. Her brow furrowed in contemplation, mirroring my own reservations about the competition's format.
"Ninety-two new judges?" she echoed, a hint of skepticism in her voice. "And broaden the scope? Journey to the East once more, Hermes. This time, we can gather a diverse collection of art that transcends the limitations of Western aesthetics. Perhaps the perspective of 92 additional judges, steeped in Eastern cultures, might offer a more nuanced view in the final judgment."
The idea sparked within me. This wasn't just about winning anymore; it was a chance to revisit the wonders of the East, this time with a deeper purpose. "A brilliant notion, Athena!" I exclaimed. "But to truly understand the soul of Eastern art, we need a well-rounded team."
My mind raced. "Aphrodite's appreciation for beauty's emotional impact would be invaluable," I mused. "And Hephaestus, with his keen eye for craftsmanship, could analyze the technical brilliance."
Athena nodded in agreement. "An excellent choice, Hermes. Let us assemble this unlikely band and embark on a quest that will redefine our understanding of art itself."
Thus began the formation of a unique team – myself, the swift messenger god; Athena, the goddess of wisdom; Aphrodite, the embodiment of love and beauty; and Hephaestus, the master craftsman. Together, we would embark on a journey that would change the very nature of the competition, and perhaps, even themselves.
1.The Forbidden City
The Forbidden City pulsed with an energy as vibrant as the painted dragons adorning its rooftops. We had arrived – myself, the swift messenger god; Athena, the goddess of wisdom; Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty; and Hephaestus, the master craftsman. Our mission: to gather a collection of art that transcended the limitations of Western aesthetics, hoping to sway the judgment in the competition between Dionysus and Apollo.
As we entered the Hall of Preserving Harmony, a hush fell over us. The "Flattening Post" by Lu Ji hung in a place of honor. Its flowing calligraphy possessed a serene beauty, a stark contrast to the wild abandon of a Dionysian revel. "This," Athena murmured, tracing the characters with her finger, "represents control, the mastery of form to achieve tranquility." Hephaestus, ever the technician, chimed in, "Notice the precise balance of each stroke, the harmony between the ink and the paper. A testament to discipline and skill."
Next, we visited the Hall of Mental Cultivation. Here, the "Plum Blossom and Magpie" by Shen Zhou burst forth with an almost chaotic energy. The vibrant colors and dynamic brushstrokes seemed to capture the fleeting beauty of a spring breeze. Aphrodite, a mischievous glint in her eyes, leaned forward. "The untamed spirit of nature captured in a single moment," she breathed. "There's a sensuality here, a celebration of life's impermanence." Hermes, ever the pragmatist, added, "Yet, the magpie and the plum blossoms are meticulously arranged. There's an underlying structure, a balance even within the chaos."
Finally, we found the "Golden Goblet of Eternal Peace" in the Hall of Union. This magnificent cup, crafted with meticulous detail by generations of artisans, embodied Apollo's love of order and perfection. The intricate patterns, the gleaming gold – it was a testament to structured beauty, a symbol of enduring power. Hephaestus' eyes lit up. "The craftsmanship is astounding! Each curve, each detail, serves a purpose. This is not just art, it's a testament to human ingenuity." But Aphrodite added a thoughtful note, "There's a rigidity to it, a coldness. Doesn't it lack a certain...passion?"
As we continued our exploration of the Forbidden City, we encountered further examples of art that defied easy categorization. Each piece we encountered resonated with a different aspect of the beauty spectrum – some leaning towards the structured harmony favored by Apollo, others pulsating with the untamed energy championed by Dionysus. It became clear that true beauty resided somewhere in between, in the exquisite tension between order and chaos, form and emotion. This understanding, we realized, would be our secret weapon in the upcoming artistic showdown. and we will invite 3 of them as the judges
2.Nanjing Museum**
The air crackled with a unique energy as we entered the Nanjing Museum. Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty, was the first to be captivated. Her eyes lingered on the "**Mixed Flowers Scroll**," a vibrant tapestry of nature's bounty. "This is a celebration of life!" she exclaimed, "An explosion of color and texture that reflects the untamed joy of spring." This resonated with Dionysus, the god of revelry, who chuckled and added, "Indeed, it's a reminder that beauty can be found in the wild abandon of nature's carnival."
Hephaestus, the master craftsman, however, tilted his head in contemplation. "While undeniably beautiful, the artist employs a surprising amount of control," he observed, tracing the delicate brushstrokes. "The composition is carefully arranged, each flower meticulously positioned." Hermes, the swift messenger god, nodded in agreement. "There's an underlying structure to this chaos, a harmony that emerges from the vibrant abundance."
This interplay between order and chaos continued as we examined the "**Seal of the King of Guangling**." The intricate gold design, a symbol of imperial power, initially drew Apollo's approval. "This embodies structured beauty," he declared, "A testament to the enduring order of the human realm."
But Dionysus, ever the challenger, raised an eyebrow. "Indeed, there's an undeniable power here," he conceded, "But what about the human cost of such rigid authority? Does it not suppress the wild creativity that fuels artistic expression?"
Athena, the goddess of wisdom, remained silent for a moment, then offered a thoughtful observation. "The seal's very form, the circular inscription, symbolizes the cyclical nature of power. Perhaps true beauty lies in the dynamic tension between order and the inevitable decay it seeks to contain."
Finally, we examined the "**Daqi Tongbao**" coin. Its simple design sparked a debate about functionality and aesthetics. Hephaestus admired its practicality. "This is a marriage of form and function," he stated, "A testament to the ingenuity that allows art to serve everyday needs."
Aphrodite, however, found beauty in its simplicity. "The unadorned surface reflects the inherent beauty of the material itself," she mused. Even Dionysus, usually dismissive of practicality, offered a surprising insight. "The wear and tear on this coin tells a story," he remarked, "A testament to the ever-flowing river of commerce, a chaotic dance of exchange that fuels human progress."
As we left the Nanjing Museum, the competition between Apollo and Dionysus seemed less clear-cut. True beauty, wasn't confined to a single aesthetic. Each artwork, like the world itself, held a balance of order and chaos, structure and spontaneity. However, when we discuss the conflict the intoxicating chaos of Dionysus and the structured beauty of Apollo,we are not do eliminate any of them, but compare the pros and cons
